Sustainability In The OR

Description

Healthcare is a large contributor of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. The OR is incredibly resource intense and has a huge influence on the environmental impact of health care delivery. Dr. Fox and her collaborators are interested in attacking this problem at Stanford and sharing their results to serve as a framework for others interested in changing towards a more sustainable future. With the Resident Safety Council, Dr. Fox serves as a mentor for residents working on Greening the Clinics. In hand surgery, Dr. Fox and her hand surgery colleagues have worked to decrease waste for high volume minor procedures through custom surgical packs and decreased draping and gowning. This exciting project was led with Dr. Ruth Tevlin, a resident in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
